※We have developed the HEXACO-JP Personality Assessment! It has more scientific basis than MBTI. Tap below for details.

    目次

Scientific Background of ENFJ-A (The Protagonist, Assertive Type)

    Overview of MBTI

MBTI is a psychological theory that classifies personality into 16 types.

To begin with, MBTI is an abbreviation for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

MBTI classifies personality into 16 types by combining the following four indicators.

In other words, MBTI expresses your personality tendencies with four letters such as “ISTJ” or “ENFP”. There is the very famous 16personalities as something similar, but this is different from MBTI.

    Overview of the Big Five

One of the most influential trait theories in personality psychology is the “Big Five”.

The Big Five measures five traits: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.

Also, while 16personalities and MBTI use type classification (e.g., either extraverted or introverted), the Big Five evaluates traits with continuous numerical values (e.g., extraversion 3.5), which is also a major difference.

Furthermore, it has been studied for a long time, has many research papers, and has been extensively researched in other fields such as academic ability, income, brain, and genetics. It can be said that the Big Five has relatively stronger scientific backing.

Correlation Between MBTI, Big Five, and HEXACO

There is a correlation between MBTI’s four indicators and the Big Five’s five factors.

A representative study showing this correlation is the paper “The relationship between the revised NEO-Personality Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator“.

According to this paper, the correlation between MBTI and the Big Five is as follows.

Also, in 16personalities, which was created based on MBTI and the Big Five, the Big Five’s neuroticism is called “Identity“, and is classified as either Assertive or Turbulent.

On the far right is the relatively new personality test “HEXACO“. It has been improved by adding one indicator, “Honesty-Humility”, to the Big Five.

This article will provide detailed explanations of 16personalities personality types based on these correlations.

Since the original research was on the Big Five and HEXACO, if you want to understand your personality more scientifically than MBTI or 16personalities, please try this HEXACO personality test.

Schwartz’s Values: Stimulation, Self-Direction, Universalism, Benevolence

People with the ENFJ-A type tend to value “stimulation,” “self-direction,” “universalism,” and “benevolence” in Schwartz’s theory of values. This is related to the characteristics of high extroversion (E), openness (N), and agreeableness (F) in the Big Five.

Stimulation: They tend to seek new experiences and challenges. Self-direction: They value self-determination and creativity. Universalism: They cherish the welfare and justice of all people. Benevolence: They value intimate relationships with others and compassion.

These values greatly influence the actions and decisions of ENFJ-A individuals. For example, they tend to find joy in helping others or taking action for social justice.

Also, these values are reflected in their attitude of trying to balance personal growth and contribution to society.

    Have Particular Attention to Clothing

People with the ENFJ-A type tend to have particular attention to clothing. This is related to the characteristics of high extroversion (E) and openness (N) in the Big Five.

ENFJ-A individuals often value clothing as one form of self-expression. Since they cherish interactions with others, they pay attention to choosing appropriate clothing according to different situations.

Additionally, they tend to be creative and interested in new trends, so they may enjoy expressing their individuality through fashion.

Furthermore, since they are conscious of their influence on others, they are also sensitive to the impression their appearance makes. However, the degree of this concern varies among individuals, and not all ENFJ-A types necessarily have a strong interest in fashion.

Investment Behavior: Disposition Effect and Overconfidence

ENFJ-A type individuals may show specific tendencies in their investment behavior. This is related to their high characteristics of extroversion (E) and conscientiousness (J) in the Big Five.

ENFJ-A individuals may tend to sell profitable investments early to secure their gains because they value goal achievement. On the other hand, they may hold onto losing investments for extended periods due to their reluctance to acknowledge losses. This is called the “disposition effect.”

Their confident personality may lead them to overestimate their investment abilities or underestimate risks. This is called overconfidence.

While this can be a driving force for actively pursuing new investment opportunities, it may also lead to excessive risk-taking.
