01 Embed personality assessments into your web/app services with minimal effort

For services where understanding “people” is crucial (particularly in romance, career/HR, education, etc.), it’s important to identify users’ “personality” with minimal burden on users.

02 Access psychological data that was previously only available through surveys

While surveys are used to obtain psychological data, surveys that don’t interest users create a significant burden. On the other hand, personality assessments have entertainment value due to the desire to “know about yourself,” making users more willing to respond.

Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), which learn and analyze large amounts of data to derive new insights, and large language models (LLM) used in ChatGPT and Gemini are commonly called “artificial intelligence (AI)”. The quality of information output by AI depends on the original data.

All Test Results Include Peer-Reviewed Papers

  • Other companies’ personality and aptitude tests are developed in-house and lack scientific foundation. Having numerical data does not automatically make them objective.
  • HEXACO-JP has been developed through an academic process, with correlation analysis with other psychological scales and validity/reliability analysis conducted.
  • Additionally, peer-reviewed papers are attached regarding various soft skills that are likely to correlate with test results. While we haven’t conducted direct correlation analysis with our HEXACO-JP, similar analyses have been performed, making them sufficiently useful for reference.
  • When evaluating and judging an individual, having scientific foundation is extremely important for accountability.

Personality and Aptitude Testing Based on HEXACO

  • In personality psychology, a psychological scale called HEXACO has been gaining attention since the 2000s. While the Big Five, which other companies reference when developing their own tests, expresses personality through 5 factors, HEXACO uses 6 factors, enabling more detailed analysis. Details here.
  • Particularly, Honesty-Humility, one of the 6 factors of HEXACO, is related to ethics, and low scores can identify the Dark Triad (Narcissism, Machiavellianism, Psychopathy). Details here.
  • The Dark Triad has been actively researched in recent years, and it has been found to be related to unethical behaviors such as not only bullying and academic misconduct, but also harassment, workplace fraud, criminal behavior, and sexual harassment. International comparisons show that Japanese people tend to score higher on Machiavellianism and Psychopathy.

  • How long does HEXACO-JP take to complete?
    • The 24-question version takes 2-3 minutes, the 60-question version takes 5-6 minutes, and the 100-question version takes 10 minutes.
  • I would like to try taking HEXACO-JP as a test. Is this possible?
    • Yes, we have prepared response screens for individuals as well. The 24-question children’s version requires no login (here), while the 60-question version requires account creation (here). The most accurate 100-question version is only for paid members.
  • What is the difference between the individual version (HEXACO-JP) and Sunblaze Test (for corporations)?
    • The corporate version allows you to “view other people’s responses in a CSV list format.”
      • When using our system, you need to enter an email address.
      • If using our system is difficult due to personal information concerns, we can also provide responses in Excel file format for a separate quote.
    • The paid version of HEXACO-JP for individuals allows you to learn about an even wider range of areas (health, romance, etc.) than Sunblaze Test.
  • Are there volume discounts available?
    • There are no initial costs and we offer special trial pricing at very affordable rates, so we currently do not offer volume discounts.
  • Do other companies’ aptitude tests and personality assessments lack scientific basis?
    • Scientific basis here means that the personality tests (psychological scales) used have undergone correlation analysis with psychological scales from existing peer-reviewed papers, validity and reliability analysis of question items has been conducted, and correlation analysis between test result values and actual behavior has been performed.
    • For example, even if results evaluate someone as work-focused or private life-focused, it cannot be trusted without evidence of what constitutes being work-focused or private life-focused.
  • How does HEXACO-JP handle false responses?
    • If you create an account, the number of responses and response time are measured, so you can rule out the possibility of countermeasures.
    • Each question is not designed to make it easy to predict the HEXACO 6 factors, and statistical processing reveals the consistency of responses.
    • While there are pros and cons to soft skills, please tell subjects that this is merely “understanding personality traits.”
  • Why do HEXACO-JP results differ from MBTI/16personalities results?
    • Since personality is influenced by genetics and environment, responses change when the environment changes (e.g., emotionality changes when tired). For more details on genetics, see here.
    • Personality changes with age and life events. There are variations in responses depending on age. For details, see here.
    • Type classification is based on whether each value is 3 or above, or below 3, so values close to 3 are more likely to change results depending on how questions are asked or the environment at the time. Please look at the numerical values rather than the types.
    • It’s unclear how much statistical processing MBTI (original) and 16personalities (commonly called MBTI test) do at the question design stage, as no papers can be found. On the other hand, papers on Big Five and HEXACO can be easily found, and this HEXACO-JP test has gone through an academic development process and is published as a paper.
    • While there aren’t many research papers comparing MBTI and 16personalities with everyday behaviors (academic performance, income, etc.) or brain/genetics, there are numerous studies on Big Five and HEXACO.
    • HEXACO is fundamentally a variation of Big Five elements, so they are similar but different. HEXACO’s Honesty-Humility is extracted from Big Five’s Agreeableness and Neuroticism. For details, see here.
  • Are test results absolutely correct?
    • Personality is influenced by genetics and environment. Due to genetic influence, the variation range is constant, but answers fluctuate to some extent depending on the environment.
    • Also, while Big Five and HEXACO research papers conduct correlation analysis with academic performance, income, etc., the correlation coefficients are not as large as in natural science experiments. Correlation coefficients range from -1 to 1, but most are around -0.4 to 0.4. Of course, there are higher ones too. They’re not 0.8 or 0.9, so they’re relatively low in comparison.
    • However, since there are various studies, please think of it as “more than fortune-telling, less than natural science.” I’m not 100% denying psychology or fortune-telling.
